Harris Corners Partners With Crew Charlotte's Queen City In Pink

On October 2, 2013, Harris Corners Corporate Park partnered with CREW Charlotte’s Queen City in Pink initiative to raise breast cancer awareness. The Pink Lady Fire Truck joined us as we handed out pink glazed donuts, pink lapel pins, mints, and information. The event was very meaningful to our Tenants as we celebrated survivors and reflected on those in memory.

Crew Charlotte Member Nancy L. Olah Presented Athena Leadership Award

(October 14, 2013) The third annual ATHENA Leadership Awards Program of Charlotte awarded CREW Charlotte member, Nancy Olah, of Parker Poe, with the 2013 Leadership Award on October 3, 2013 at the Charlotte County Club.

Olah was selected for having achieved the highest level of professional excellence, contributing her time and energy to improving the quality of life for others in the Charlotte community, and for her active assistance in help others realize their full leadership potential.

“Nancy tirelessly gives of herself to the mentees she helps, as well as the organizations she is affiliated with. She is so deserving of this award and we are grateful to have her as an invested member of CREW Charlotte,” said CREW Charlotte President, Barbara Briccotto, INTEC Group, Inc.

Sandi Thorman, Cpa, With Greerwalker Llp Wins 2013 Women To Watch Awards

NCACPA, in partnership with the AICPA and its Women’s Initiatives Committee, is pleased to announce the winners of the 2013 Women to Watch Awards. These awards recognize women who have made significant contributions to the accounting profession, their organizations, and to the development of women CPAs as leaders.

Members of the Professional Women’s Task Force read, reviewed, and rated each nomination based on a rubric.

The winners for this year’s awards are:

Crew Charlotte Kicks Off 2013 Queen City In Pink Initiatives

Commercial Real Estate Women Charlotte kicks off of its 5th Annual Queen City in Pink campaign, where local businesses participate to turn Charlotte pink September 28 – October 6 in conjunction with National Breast Cancer Foundation’s® Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
 

Charlotte, NC (July 30, 2013)

CREW Charlotte is proud to announce the kick off of its 5th Annual Queen City in Pink (QCIP) campaign partnering with Susan G. Komen® Charlotte. QCIP works to turn the Queen City pink September 28 – October 6 in conjunction with National Breast Cancer Foundation’s® Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

CREW Charlotte’s QCIP initiative asks the owners and tenants of Charlotte properties to illuminate their buildings with pink lighting, temporarily turn fountains pink with dye or lighting and other displays of pink including ribbons, banners and flags. These efforts show support for the community’s survivors of breast cancer and honor those who have been affected by or lost their lives to the disease.

“We were thrilled to have had nearly 120 participants last year show their support in QCIP. Our city really came together and made a huge impact. We have set our goal high for this year at 150 participants which is a 25% increase from last year. Just like breast cancer screening and detection, we feel it’s never too early to start. We have an amazing committee who has been working to secure participants since April of this year,” said Nicole Green, CREW Charlotte’s Queen City in Pink Committee Co-Chair.

Crew Charlotte Is Pleased To Announce That Local Applicant Wins Scholarship Through Crew Network

Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Charlotte is pleased to announce that Margret “Maggie” Hill, a rising junior in the McColl School of Business at Queens University of Charlotte, was recently awarded a scholarship from the CREW Network Foundation Scholarship Program.

CREW Charlotte proudly supported Maggie for the $5,000 undergraduate scholarship. Launched in 2008, the CREW Network Foundation Scholarship Program is supported by a permanent endowment and awards grants annually to female students pursuing educations leading to careers in commercial real estate. To date, CREW Network and CREW Network Foundation have awarded 56 scholarships totaling $470,000.

Phantom Income Triggered By Debt Transactions

Recent changes with commercial lending requirements have driven some real estate investors to develop new approaches to investing in real estate.   While these approaches may give way to significant earnings, investors should be aware of events that could also trigger phantom taxable income.

The continued increase of distressed loans on lenders’ balance sheets, matched with the increase in required equity and occupancy rates for traditional financing, some real estate investors have found that it is more beneficial to purchase these distressed loans directly from the bank at a significantly reduced price.   While the reduced price can be very appealing, future transactions or modifications can lead to unforeseen taxable income.
