This causes the median retirement income of women to be 60% of that for men. Saving early is very valuable and can increase a woman’s chances of having enough to last through her retirement years. Statistically, women outlive men and need a larger nest egg to cover longevity. They are also more likely to spend their last years alone. When it comes to retirement goals - Women are usually caregivers and don’t invest as much as men. Women are more likely to become single parents earlier in life. Expenses associated with this need to be considered for successful financial planning. If your employer does not offer a retirement savings plan, save in an individual retirement account and perhaps in after-tax accounts.
