• On average, women earn less over time than men.  This causes the median retirement income of women to be 60% of that for men. Saving early is very valuable and can increase a woman’s chances of having enough to last through her retirement years.
• Statistically, women outlive men and need a larger nest egg to cover longevity.  They are also more likely to spend their last years alone.
• When it comes to retirement goals – Women are usually caregivers and don’t invest as much as men.
• Women are more likely to become single parents earlier in life.  Expenses associated with this need to be considered for successful financial planning.
• If your employer does not offer a retirement savings plan, save in an individual retirement account and perhaps in after-tax accounts.
• Safeguard your own needs before deciding to help other family members financially.
