Until Justice Just Is

Choate Construction 2907 Providence Road, Charlotte, United States

In continued support of our YWCA partnership, CREW Charlotte will be holding an open discussion event, Until Justice Just Is (UJJI), formally known as Stand Against Racism. As part of the YWCA’s racial justice efforts, they want to continue education efforts in our community.  As we activate our community we invite you to join us again for our Stand + Commit! As a reminder, UJJI  is an annual series of events held at YWCAs across the country that raise awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism in our communities and build community among those who work for racial justice. This year, the YWCA will focus on mental health and racial trauma. We are inviting CREW members and friends to come together and discuss the different types of racism and how each is displayed in various environments. The open discussion that CREW Charlotte will hold alongside the YWCA will provide a facilitator’s guide for you and your colleagues to have a discussion about the different types of racism and how they manifest in our world. The guide will also invite your group to put together a list of questions to ask each other as a way of supporting one another when racism does manifest. This tool can be used to discuss acts of racism displayed on the national stage as well as in various spaces.

USGBC’s Women In Green

Taking control of your narrative is a mighty act, and it is the driving thought behind this year’s theme: "Self-titled." Women are represented across the full spectrum of professional careers in the building industry. With career goals and life aspirations, we define ourselves without gendered limits. At Women in Green, we unapologetically celebrate, sharing our experiences and honoring our impact as professionals. We acknowledge the past while defining ourselves and the future—without altering who we are or asking permission. Women in Green is a platform to gather and learn from others across fields and disciplines, generations, and job titles. In 2023, we write (or rewrite) our stories, self-titled. This year, USGBC Carolinas convenes with leaders to celebrate in four locations on May 24: Asheville, Charlotte, Durham, and Greenville, SC. We will convene from 4-6 pm with great conversation and refreshments. Advanced Registration Required. Approved for 1 GBCI CE There will be multiple breakouts for small groups to share the answers to these questions. What does self-titled mean to you? What led you to a career in the green building or sustainability industry? What is the biggest challenge/opportunity facing sustainability in our communities? How are you writing your story? 2023 Featured Speakers & Discussion Leaders: Senator DeAndrea Salvador Elaine Gallager Adams Amanda Brookes Laura Bain Susan Johnson Stephanie Cooper Chistine Davis Dr. Traci Rose-Rider Elizabeth Bowen Crystal Dixon Janna Starr Diane Coleman Erin Stanforth For more information or to register, please click here.
