About Dawn
Dr. Dawn Chanland is an award-winning professor, MBA director, women’s leadership development program director, sought-after speaker, and talent management consultant.
Dawn brings 30 years of professional experience in human resources, organization development, and management training to the creation of customized talent management programs, strategic planning, improvement of team dynamics, and the design of individual leadership and career solutions. Her clients have included pharmaceutical, health care, manufacturing, educational, governmental and other non- and for-profit organizations.
In her 15 years teaching executive, graduate, and undergraduate audiences, Dawn has won 15 teaching, research, and community awards. She is currently the McColl School of Business MBA Director and Professor of Management & Organizational Behavior at Queens University of Charlotte. Previously, Dawn was an Assistant Professor with the Orfalea College of Business at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (“CalPoly”). Alongside Dawn’s academic roles, she is the Director of CREW Women’s Authentic Leadership Program, Charlotte’s premiere women’s leadership program.
Her mentoring and career-related research has been featured in the Wall Street Journal and other popular press outlets, as well as top-ranked peer-reviewed academic journals. She has appeared on NPR and CNN’s HLN multiple times and written or been interviewed on a wide range of business-related subjects including mentoring, interviewing, leadership, job choice, and negotiation for articles featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and on Forbes.com.
In 2017, in recognition of her body of work on mentoring, Dawn was chosen to represent Queens University of Charlotte as a mentor for the Bank of America and Vital Voices’s Global Ambassador Program. The program involved a one-week intensive mentoring relationship between industry and academic leaders and emerging women leaders. Dawn had the great fortune of mentoring Patience Magodo, who is pioneering social banking in rural Zimbabwe for the economic benefit of small farmers.
Dawn earned her Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) from Boston University, and holds both a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. In 2021, she secured a Senior Certified Professional, Society for Human Resources Management certification.
