SUMMARY:CREW Charlotte Commonality Cohorts
DESCRIPTION:CREW Charlotte created commonalty cohorts to improve inclusion and belonging throughout the chapter. Commonalty cohorts are groups of members who either share a specific demographic commonality or are allies of the demographic.  The cohorts meet quarterly to discuss like-minded topics\, including collaborating on suggestions for improving CREW Charlotte\, and are facilitated by a DEI committee member. \nThis quarter\, the PWD cohort will meet on August 10th and Diana Palecek will facilitate a group discussion using the book “Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-First Century” as the springboard. The book is thought-provoking and heart-wrenching.  All are welcome to attend and can participate in the discussion; reading the book is not required! For those interested in getting the book\, it can be purchased from Amazon:  Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-First Century: Wong\, Alice: 9781984899422: Amazon.com: Books Sign up below! \nOn August 15th\, join us at 7th St. Station and grab a Hip Hop Smoothie for the PRISM cohort.  Come experience some of Charlotte’s BIPOC culture. This month’s topic will focus on how the BIPOC community can bring its cultural identity to work.  Check out this article and come join the discussion\, https://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article/how-to-bring-your-cultural-identity-to-work/. Please sign up below if you would like to participate in the discussion and have a beverage from Hip Hop Smoothie. \nPlease join your peers in the PRIDE Cohort at this year’s Charlotte Pride parade!  We have decided to walk in the parade this year to show our support for Charlotte PRIDE.  The parade is August 20th from 1-4 p.m.  Participants will need to arrive for staging by noon.  Please sign up below if you would like to participate as part of the CREW Charlotte crew! \nSign up for a CREW Commonality Cohort here! \n

SUMMARY:USGBC's Women In Green
DESCRIPTION:Taking control of your narrative is a mighty act\, and it is the driving thought behind this year’s theme: “Self-titled.” Women are represented across the full spectrum of professional careers in the building industry. With career goals and life aspirations\, we define ourselves without gendered limits. \nAt Women in Green\, we unapologetically celebrate\, sharing our experiences and honoring our impact as professionals. We acknowledge the past while defining ourselves and the future—without altering who we are or asking permission. Women in Green is a platform to gather and learn from others across fields and disciplines\, generations\, and job titles. In 2023\, we write (or rewrite) our stories\, self-titled. \nThis year\, USGBC Carolinas convenes with leaders to celebrate in four locations on May 24: Asheville\, Charlotte\, Durham\, and Greenville\, SC. We will convene from 4-6 pm with great conversation and refreshments. Advanced Registration Required. \nApproved for 1 GBCI CE \nThere will be multiple breakouts for small groups to share the answers to these questions. \n\nWhat does self-titled mean to you?\nWhat led you to a career in the green building or sustainability industry?\nWhat is the biggest challenge/opportunity facing sustainability in our communities?\nHow are you writing your story?\n\n2023 Featured Speakers & Discussion Leaders:\n\nSenator DeAndrea Salvador\nElaine Gallager Adams\nAmanda Brookes\nLaura Bain\nSusan Johnson\nStephanie Cooper\nChistine Davis\nDr. Traci Rose-Rider\nElizabeth Bowen\nCrystal Dixon\nJanna Starr\nDiane Coleman\nErin Stanforth\n\nFor more information or to register\, please click here. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Until Justice Just Is
DESCRIPTION:In continued support of our YWCA partnership\, CREW Charlotte will be holding an open discussion event\, Until Justice Just Is (UJJI)\, formally known as Stand Against Racism. As part of the YWCA’s racial justice efforts\, they want to continue education efforts in our community.  As we activate our community we invite you to join us again for our Stand + Commit! \nAs a reminder\, UJJI  is an annual series of events held at YWCAs across the country that raise awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism in our communities and build community among those who work for racial justice. This year\, the YWCA will focus on mental health and racial trauma. \nWe are inviting CREW members and friends to come together and discuss the different types of racism and how each is displayed in various environments. \nThe open discussion that CREW Charlotte will hold alongside the YWCA will provide a facilitator’s guide for you and your colleagues to have a discussion about the different types of racism and how they manifest in our world. The guide will also invite your group to put together a list of questions to ask each other as a way of supporting one another when racism does manifest. This tool can be used to discuss acts of racism displayed on the national stage as well as in various spaces. \n  \nRegister Now

SUMMARY:CREW Charlotte's Emerging Leaders Event (Members Only)
DESCRIPTION:Join CREW Charlotte for our 2023 Emerging Leaders Event – Women & Investing: Take control of your financial future by planning now! \nThis event is intended for CRE professionals who are 35 years old and under. \n\nOn average\, women earn less over time than men.  This causes the median retirement income of women to be 60% of that for men. Saving early is very valuable and can increase a woman’s chances of having enough to last through her retirement years.\nStatistically\, women outlive men and need a larger nest egg to cover longevity.  They are also more likely to spend their last years alone.\nWhen it comes to retirement goals – Women are usually caregivers and don’t invest as much as men.\nWomen are more likely to become single parents earlier in life.  Expenses associated with this need to be considered for successful financial planning.\nIf your employer does not offer a retirement savings plan\, save in an individual retirement account and perhaps in after-tax accounts.\nSafeguard your own needs before deciding to help other family members financially.\n\n  \nSpeakers\nMeaghan GrossBank of America \nBrenda MillardBank of America Merrill Lynch \nTaleshia SmithBank of America \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nSince this event is complimentary\, please consider a donation to CREW Network Foundation. CREW Network Foundation is committed to bringing more women into commercial real estate with programs that educate women and girls about the career opportunities available to them and creating mentoring relationships for those new to the industry. When donating in support of their mission\, you may choose to dedicate your gift towards a specific scholarship fund\, industry research\, or career outreach efforts. CREW Charlotte’s goal is that a minimum of 50% of our membership makes a meaningful donation to CREW Network Foundation. Help us reach that goal by donating today. https://crewnetwork.org/foundation/donate \nRegister Now
