SUMMARY:CREW Charlotte's April 2024 Luncheon: Thriving Submarkets in Charlotte
DESCRIPTION:Charlotte is the #15 largest City in the United States.  With over 100 people moving here a day\, where are these people living\, where are the working and what are they doing for fun?  Join us for the April Luncheon on Tuesday\, April 9th\, for a discussion and presentation with four leaders that are active in Charlotte’s largest submarkets – South End\, University City\, SouthPark and Ballantyne – to hear more about each of these submarkets\, how they a positioning their areas of Charlotte for growth and how they are adapting.  Join Marguerite Novak with Charlotte Center City Partners\, Keith Stanley with University City Partners\, Adam Rhew with SouthPark Community Partners and Christina Thigpen with Northwood Office and South Charlotte Partners Board member. \nThe Revelry\n11:00 a.m. – Networking\n11:30 a.m. – Luncheon Meeting \n$55 Members/$80 Guests \n  \nRegistration is now closed. Please email Patty Trepp Drummond if you are interested in attending. \n  \nMake your Spring Cleaning Mean More! We’re collecting gently used women’s clothing\, shoes\, accessories (jewelry\, purses\, etc.) to support our newest community partner\, Amy’s House! Bring your Spring/Summer clothing donations to the April 9th Luncheon to help support women & children who are survivors of abuse in our community.  Please bring your items in bags – no hangers! Note: No children’s clothing or heavy boots/coats this round please. Let’s save the cold weather gear for our Winter drive.\n \nThe Lincoln County Coalition Against Domestic Violence (LCCADV) is a 501(c) (3) non-profit\, organized in 1993 by citizens who were concerned about domestic violence issues. On January 9\, 1995\, their shelter\, affectionately named Amy’s House after the local woman who inspired LCCADV into action\, officially opened in a four-room former mill house\, offering shelter\, support services and assistance for 7-8 people.  It was a safe haven for families displaced by violence and a transitional step until they could recover\, heal\, empower and make plans for their future. \nAt the end of 2023\, Amy’s House moved in to a new near net zero energy efficient shelter (designed by several CREW Charlotte members!) that combines support services and increased their temporary housing capacity to approximately 40 women and children starting over to live a life free of abuse!  Your donations will get taken to Amy’s Closet\, where survivors get to “shop” for free for clothing items they need for work\, home and play or will get resold to the public\, to directly support these families. \nThe Coalition provides many support services to in-shelter and out-of-shelter clients in addition to safe shelter and food\, but the core of the emergency service is Amy’s House.  One resident said “this is a house of hope\, love and peace…coming here has changed my life completely.” \nThank you to Our Luncheon Sponsor

SUMMARY:CREW Charlotte Signature Luncheon with Dominique Dawes
DESCRIPTION:Dominque Dawes\nThree-Time Olympian and Hall of Fame Gymnast \n  \n \nSuccess Is a Journey\, Not a Destination \nDominique Dawes won Olympic gold. But for her\, success is so much more than medals and accolades: it’s something she worked hard to achieve everyday en route to Olympic glory. Her journey in the sport of gymnastics lasted 18 years and in those years\, she stood strong on numerous podiums\, leaving lasting impressions in the hearts of fans. The podium was the destination\, but the long-term goal? It’s the moments in between—what she calls the “journey”—that helped her realize the success that she was always striving for. Overcoming the inevitable obstacles\, challenges\, and doubts are the moments in the journey that build the champion in Dawes. Surrounding herself with the right team\, developing the mindset to persevere and turning negative situations into life lessons is how Dawes realized Success Is a Journey\, NOT a Destination. \n  \nBio\nOwner of the Dominique Dawes Gymnastics & Ninja Academies\, Dominique opened the gyms to continue her commitment to developing a healthy and compassionate culture in the sport of gymnastics. Her first academy opened in the midst of a global pandemic\, July 2020 and her second location opened in 2023. Dawes also holds minority ownership of the Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League\, and served as the co-chair of the President’s Council for Fitness\, Sports and Nutrition under the Obama administration alongside Drew Brees. Alongside LeBron James and Maverick Carter\, she recently served as Executive Producer of the Peacock docu-series “Golden”\, the journey of USA’s elite gymnasts on the road to the Tokyo Olympics\, which has been nominated for a Sports Emmy. \nDawes holds her degree from the University of Maryland and was inducted into UMD’s prestigious Hall of Fame in 2022. In 2023\, her hometown of Montgomery County\, Maryland will honor her career and legacy with a life size statue to continue inspiring the next generation to follow in her footsteps. \nAs a wife\, mother of four\, Olympian and business owner\, Dominique Dawes has transcended the world of sports\, politics\, entertainment and culture. \n  \nTuesday\, May 7th\nThe Revelry\n11:00 a.m. – Networking\n11:30 a.m. – Luncheon \n$150 Members/$200 Guests\n$2\,000 Table Host (reserved table of 8) \nOnline registration is now closed. SUMMARY:CREW Charlotte Book Club: The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance---What Women Should Know
DESCRIPTION:CREW Charlotte is thrilled to introduce our inaugural book club\, featuring the captivating summer read\, The Confidence Code\, written by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman. Delve into the depths of neuroscience as we explore the origins of confidence and uncover intriguing research on its connection to our brains. Are you born with confidence or is it something that can be cultivated? Don’t miss out\, register now and participate in a stimulating discussion in person the afternoon of August 14th. \nFor questions\, reach out to Sherri Commander\, Myranda Sieverding or Dianne Jones. \nBook: The Confidence Code – The Science and Art of Self-Assurance – What Women Should Know  By: Katty Kay & Claire Shipman\nAmazon Link: https://www.amazon.com/Confidence-Code-Science-Self-Assurance-What-Should/dp/006223062X \nAbout the Book: \nConfidence. We want it. We need it. But it can be maddeningly enigmatic and out of reach. The authors of the New York Times bestseller Womenomics deconstruct this essential\, elusive\, and misunderstood quality and offer a blueprint for bringing more of it into our lives. \nIs confidence hardwired into the DNA of a lucky few\, or can anyone learn it? Is it best expressed by bravado\, or is there another way to show confidence? Which is more important: confidence or competence? Why do so many women\, even the most successful\, struggle with feelings of self-doubt? Is there a secret to channeling our inner confidence? \nIn The Confidence Code\, journalists Katty Kay and Claire Shipman travel to the frontiers of neuroscience on a hunt for the confidence gene and reveal surprising new research on its roots in our brains. They visit the world’s leading psychologists who explain how we can all choose to become more confident simply by taking action and courting risk\, and how those actions change our physical wiring. They interview women leaders from the worlds of politics\, sports\, the military\, and the arts to learn how they have tapped into this elemental resource. They examine how a lack of confidence impacts our leadership\, success\, and fulfillment. \nUltimately\, they argue\, while confidence is partly influenced by genetics\, it is not a fixed psychological state. That’s the good news. You won’t discover it by thinking positive thoughts or by telling yourself (or your children) that you are perfect as you are. You also won’t find it by simply squaring your shoulders and faking it. But it does require a choice: less people pleasing and perfectionism and more action\, risk taking\, and fast failure. \nInspiring\, insightful\, and persuasive\, The Confidence Code shows that by acting on our best instincts and by daring to be authentic\, women can feel the transformative power of a life on confidence. \n  \nRegister Now\n  \nThank You to Our Sponsor\n\n\n

SUMMARY:After Hours at The Monarch Market
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an After Hours with Crescent Communities at Monarch Market. \nCrescent Communities’ vision is to ‘Build Community. Better People’s Lives.’ In 2019 the purchase of 101 N Tryon\, a 547\,000-square-foot 20-story tower was made by Crescent Communities and Nuveen Real Estate to do just that. The visionary redevelopment was supported by forward-thinking activism to take a building constructed in the 1980s to become the meeting point of the city’s center—one that could give back to Uptown by becoming a staple arts and entertainment meeting point\, a sporting go-to destination\, and the weekly meeting spot for coffee\, drinks\, lunch\, and everything in between. The design was intended to be a place beyond working hours to revitalize the legacy of trade and commerce that once stood on the iconic corners of Trade and Tryon. \nLocated on the ground floor of One Independence Center\, a 20-story renovated office\, Monarch Market is a dynamic 18\,000-square-foot food hall developed by Crescent Communities and managed by Hospitality HQ. Monarch Market has 12 eclectic food vendors\, three distinct bars\, and one full-service restaurant all offering a fresh take on the many facets of modern dining. Vendors include local and national concepts; Barley and Burger\, Brooklyn Dumpling Shop\, Curry Gate\, Dock Local\, Focaccina\, Kabab2Go\, Pha Khao Lao\, RolledAF\, Seoul Good\, Sushi Art\, and Just Chicken\, plus two custom bars—Aster Cocktail Room and Lanai Terrace Bar. Aster offers classic cocktails with a modern twist on the second floor above the market’s main dining area and is available for private events with an outdoor terrace overlooking Tryon Street. Lanai Terrace Bar serves coastal-inspired drinks in a covered patio with an entrance along Tryon Street. \n.\nTuesday\, October 15\nMonarch Market – Uptown\n4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. \n  \nRegister Now\n
